How To Soundproof A Blender?

August 31, 2019 By hasan

Smoothies and juices have become a part of a healthy life. Today nearly everyone owns a blender, and I am not an exception. Yesterday when I was making my smoothie, my wife woke up due to the noise of the blender. I felt bad for disturbing her sleep, and due to the change in the timing of her job; this was going to become a regular problem. So I decided to find a solution either it be a silent blender or a way to quieten it. In the quest to soundproof my blender, I tried different methods none of them made the mixer 100 percent soundproof, but they did help in reducing the noise significantly. Here I am going to share those methods that worked in quieting the sound. Some of these methods are simple and won’t require anything drastic.

Table of Contents

  • Place The Blender Away From Wall
  • Use Silicone Mat
  • Make A Soundproof Enclosure
  • Buy Soundproof Enclosure
  • Buy A Low Powered Blender
  • Purchase A Quiet Blender
  • Purchase Soundproof Earmuffs
  • Conclusion

Place The Blender Away From Wall

The placement of blender plays a role in how much noise is there going to be. If a blender is placed near the wall, then the noise will echo, and this will amplify the sound of the blender. Moving the blender away from the wall will reduce the echo, and this will cut around 20 percent of the noise. But this won’t reduce it to the tolerable levels so if you want to dampen the sound even more than try the methods listed below.

Use Silicone Mat

Silicone mats absorb the vibrations from the blender. This will reduce the amount of noise traveling through the surface. Try this extra-thick mat for good results. If you have any extra blanket or towel, you can use them for this purpose too. This method isn’t going to absorb all the noise, but it helps to reduce it.

Make A Soundproof Enclosure

Enclosing the blender in a box worked wonder for me. The enclosure reduced the noise significantly, and it didn’t cost a dime. Check out this article on making a soundproof blender. You can also watch the video below for making a soundproof blender. For better soundproofing, you can add some noise-reducing foam too.

Buy Soundproof Enclosure

If you don’t want to build the enclosure yourself, then you can simply purchase one. These soundproof enclosures use materials that are good at absorbing the noise. Some quality blenders have these enclosures built-in. Before buying, make sure that the size of the enclosure is not smaller than your blender. These enclosures are not cheap and can cost around $100-200. You can check some of them here on Amazon. You can also use the silicone mat in combination with the enclosure for even better result. This combination will reduce around 70-80 percent of the noise.

Buy A Low Powered Blender

You can buy a low powered mini blender instead of purchasing the enclosures. These blenders are budget-friendly, but they do come with some cons. Mini blenders are ideal for easy blending jobs and if you are going to make small portions. These blenders are not suitable for crushing ice or making thick smoothies. Check out this low powered Hamilton blender.

Purchase A Quiet Blender

Over the past years, blenders have become very powerful. The increase in speed and power comes at the cost of the noise. A powerful blender like Ninja professional is going to produce a lot of noise. This noise is going to disturb your family members or neighbors. You can blend your meal a night before and store it in an airtight container. If that is not acceptable to you than the other solution would be either buying a low powered mixer or purchasing a quiet blender.

Quiet Blenders comes with the soundproof enclosure, and that is the main reason they produce way less noise than a regular mixer. They are not 100% percent soundless as that is not possible. But the noise produced by them is negligible when compared to any regular blender. These machines cost a lot more too. If you have a low budget, then the other solutions would be more suitable, but if you don’t want to deal with any hassle and are willing to spend the money, then they are best for the job.

Below I have listed some quite blenders

  • Vita-Mix Quiet One blender – This blender is the quietest one I have tried, but it also cost a lot more than any other.
  • Blendtec Pro 800 with WildSide Jar – This blender too produces little to no noise. But its performance is not on par with the Vit-Mix.
  • Optimum Vacuum Sealed Auto High-Speed Blender – It is a cheaper alternative to above two, but it does have a very serious con, it struggles to blend heavy mixtures.
  • Hamilton Beach Professional Quiet Shield blender – It is a budget-friendly solution for your soundproofing needs. But it is not as impactful as the other three. I was quite disappointed with the results. I don’t think to call it a “quiet” blender is justifiable as the noise was still high, lower than regular, yes but still not up to the mark.

Purchase Soundproof Earmuffs

If the noise is disturbing you, then this will be a solution for you. As even the quietest blender is going to produce sound and if you are standing near it there is no way you are going to avoid it. You should only consider this option if the noise is hurting your ears. You can check my article on soundproof earmuffs. This article is for sleeping muffs, but most of them would work in this situation as well.

You should buy something like those earmuffs only if your blender is that loud that your ears hurt. 3M Peltor earmuff is an excellent choice for this job.

Conclusion

Above I have listed several methods that are going to help you in dealing with the noise from the blender. You can go with any of the above solutions, and they are going to reduce the sound. Some of them are more effective than the others, and in the end, it is your choice which one you think is perfect for you. You can either buy a silent blender or make a soundproof enclosure yourself. Sometimes simple tricks such as changing the place or placing a towel beneath will produce the desired results.

If you are looking forward to soundproofing your room than this article will guide you.
